I was checking the snares I have put out on Estrella Ranch that I am the Wildlife Biologist for this morning around 7 am and I found two had been slipped and one was even twisted off and broken, but my next to last snare I checked held a rare prize. When I first got out of my truck I saw something black on the ground and thought “Great, I snared a small hog.” But, as I got closer I saw that it was some sort of black dog. Then, as I was reeling the thing through the fence I realized it was a black coyote and my excitement was over the top. I have seen only one other black coyote in the wild about 3 yrs. ago with one of my hunters from New York as it ran through a pasture about 500 yds. away. I’ve seen some mounted before but have never had the chance to shoot or catch one. This female, which weighed about 35 lbs. I’m guessing, had expired only a few hours before I got there because rigor had just set in and some of the blood was still warm and not coagulated as I capped it out. This is definitely going to be trophy to remember, I’ll be getting a full body mount and I’ll be doing the euro on the skull. Black coyotes are just about as rare as albino ones, so you can imagine how excited I am. A once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I have 12,500 acres to hunt if anyone is interested in booking a hunt with me for a predator, hog, deer, or just about whatever you can shoot. I also do the European mounts for my hunters and can even get your skulls camo dipped (check out my Facebook or myspace page for some pics of a camo dipped coyote and duck skull), so give me a shout if you need a place to hunt and see my website for prices.
